The Guru Angad Institute of Sikh Studies (GAISS) is a non-profit faith-based educational organization seeking to enshrine an appreciation and understanding of Sikh heritage, language and music. 
We are pleased to announce that with the Guru's blessings and the support of Sangat, the School has indeed completed the construction of its permanent facility, and moved in' on April 8th, 2010. 22831 Silverbrook Center Dr., #130, Sterling, VA 20166 Since our inception in January 2004, we have grown from 30 students to over a 100 in seven different levels. This growth led to several challenges, most notably the need for more classrooms. In November 2007, we moved to the new Claude Moore Community Center. While this new facility was bigger, we continued to incur rental expenses of around $12,000 per year, that too only for the weekend use. In a survey conducted of GAISS families in January 2007, there was overwhelming desire to look for an alternative solution which would give GAISS a permanent home, so we embarked on the below journey... Time line for our permanent facility: - Purchase Agreement was signed Jan 2009
- Zoning Approval was obtained by April 09 end
- The Architectural and Engineering plans were Completed between Jan – May 09
- Our closing was on May 11th 2009 and the Permit Application was Submitted May 22nd
- Contract signed with the General Contractor in Oct 09
- Fit-out construction completed Feb 2010
- Painting, Flooring, and Furniture setup done by GAISS volunteers Mar 2010
- Facility inagurated 4/18/2010
With your support, we have moved into our permanent home, but we continue to need more support to manage our finances. If you think we are providing a valuable service to the community and you would like to see us keep growing, please send us your donation via check or sign-up for a monthly EFT by filling the EFT form which is available in the Donations section. We really prefer EFT donations because it is a secure and guaranteed method for receiving funds for the school and also helps us qualify for mortgages. Please note that GAISS has non-profit status and this donation would be tax deductible.
